Ok, I'm trying not to feel embarrassed about sharing this here, but it's hard, because it's emabrrassing! I bought some painting supplies for the Get Your Paint On class last Friday and couldn't resist trying them out that night. I've never painted before and never mixed colors before (uh, harder than I thought it'd be!) so I just wanted to play and get a feel for it all. This is a real beginner attempt I realize, but I'm so proud of myself for just sitting down and giving it a go!
I had in mind to make a "Valentine" of somesort, thus the heart. And that's a fuzzy little dog on the right side there- I was trying to make a sheep, but it didn't work and he turned into a dog. Yes, I have no idea what I'm doing. But I had a lot of fun doing it, and that's all that matters, right? Right!
So, our first class assignment is to make a gridded or pattern painting inspired by the Gee's Bend quilters. I zeroed in on this quilt below- love the crazy color combo, the irregular lines, variety of shapes. I spent an hour getting started on a painting last night- can't wait to see how it turns out! This is a good test of brush control, of which I have pretty much none at this point. I'm excited to practice tho :)
Ok, now it's your turn. Did you make time to make something just for fun last week? Please share in the comments below and if you post about your project on your own blog, feel free to share a link! And I'd love for you to make/do something creative for fun this week so you can join us next Tuesday!
